After having seen what exists in your garden currently and what changes you envision, we will draw a plan with the new plants added and the cost of materials and a time frame.
Depending on what it is you have in mind to use your garden for, we can help you come up with a layout and create a beautiful space in your budget. Gardens sometimes don’t come together all in one season and they are forever growing and changing, which is part of the fun, so it’s not necessary to create it all at once, it can be done in stages. We will get the
barebones in place and from there it can be added to and filled out. In the fall we offer the service of putting your garden to bed, mulching leaves and placing them on the soil to protect the plants. This leaf layer is very important for the soil as it breaks down into compost and naturally feeds it, similar to how it would in the forest or any natural setting.
Upon meeting and walking through the garden area, and discussing what you have in mind, we take a soil test and photos. Once we know the result of the sediment test we have a better idea of what plants will thrive in that soil. Primarily we chose native plants, because they are designed to grow in our ecosystem in Montreal and will come back strong every year and flourish in your garden. The goal in organic gardening practices is to give the soil appropriate amounts of effective micro-organisms in the form of compost to then give back to the plants, shrubs, grass and trees in your yard. The soil will be biodynamically dug to create the proper aeration for these micro-organisms to thrive and the microorganisms will then be applied. At this point your garden is ready for planting! You can rest assured that you
will not need to use toxic pesticides or fertilisers for your plants to remain robust and healthy.
One of the joys of summer is sitting out in our gardens and enjoying all the colours that we don’t get to see in the winter! Perennial gardens are lovely but sometimes we want more punchy colours in borders, or mixed in with your perennial foliage. This is a nice way to add life and excitement to your garden. There are many different options in this area, from impatiens, to daisies and various tropical plants, depending on if you have a sun or shade situation; either way, annual plants can definitely create a mood in your garden and make you feel like you are on vacation right in your backyard! We love creating flower pots as well and can make them to your taste and style to add warmth and beauty to your patio or deck.
String lights can also be added as a finishing touch!
Year round, if you need arrangements for an event we make cut flower arrangements for tables and potted arrangements as well. Arrangements are made to your taste and style, from modern to whimsical, we’ve got you covered!
One of the most important parts of gardening is watering! Especially when plants are just introduced to the space and are establishing their roots. We are firm believers in using what nature gives us first and then if we have to use pumped in water we will. One of the best
ways to capture rainwater is by planting ground covers. This ensures that the soil stays moist without having to over water with pumped in city water which could potentially create a runoff situation. Another way we can capture rainwater is with barrels. They can be placed under the roof underneath drains and will get filled and can be used to water the 🪴 garden
beds. If there is a larger area with grass, we would advise to use a sprinkler to get your seeds growing and water as well on dry days. If you are unsure of how much and when to water, we are happy to offer that service.
We do not specialise in pavé or garden wall installation, though we do have contacts of businesses that we can get you in touch with for that type of work. If you want to make a more organic slate, flagstone, limestone or sandstone stepping stone pathway, we can install this as well as small river rock pathways.
When the summer season comes to a close and your garden has been put away, there are options to add a bit of fall colour to your front doorstep! Chrysanthemums come in many beautiful colours and are a nice compliment to the fall foliage. In mid November, we empty those pots and add boxwood, berries, birch limbs and golden fairy lights for a festive look on your doorstep.
